In this way, when the main trunk it ready, it will receive already well-tested code, the two trunks will merge and the ipv6 fork will die. (see net/ipv6/af_inet6.c) The usage counter is left to -1 anyway and I think it's really impossible to providing a meaningful "usage counter", because what's a "usage unit" anyway? Opened sockets? Also - is there a generally accepted order (or, better, a standard) that a client SHOULD prefer? IPv6 and then IPv4, or the other way around? I guess I could look all this up online, but I'm trying to limit computer usage a bit (I think I've got an onset of RSI).
