Good news. I just got it to compile on my system, after having compiled
automake et al from source (distro versions were older).
Hmm.... Your host is called trantor, /too/. (mutter, mutter... great
minds... alike... mutter)

I do (want to help). It is important to me to be able to generate ICMP
(specifically ND and RA/RS) packets, and fake ones at that. I can get
down to it (if everyone agrees).
Looking at the code, it occurs to me that it could be made portable
between Linux and *BSD faster if the headers were sanitized to use
autoconf more effectively. I mean, instead of "#ifdef BSDI", use
"#ifdef HAVE_..." &c. I have access to a Linux and a FreeBSD box, and I
propose I get down to it.
