hi guys,
i am planning to release the new 0.6 (or maybe 0.5.99 if i won't be able to
clean up the bluez support code) version of nc6 very soon. i have just
updated the i18n subsystem to use gettext 0.14.1 [1] and i've made minor but
significant changes to the build system (which now works with autoconf 2.59
and automake 1.8.3).
i have uploaded a test tarball here:
ftp://ftp.deepspace6.net/ds6/sources/nc6/test/nc6-0.5-cvs.tar.{gz,bz2}
could you please test it and report if you find some stupid bugs?
thank you very much ;-)
[1] for those of you who don't know, gettextize is a *REAL* PITA. i've lost
half an hour debugging a stupid problem with the Makefile.in.in provided
by the latest version of gettextize (0.14.1).
the problem was that latest version of automake (1.8.3) does not install
mkinstalldirs anymore. from the automake manual:
`mkinstalldirs'
This script used to be a wrapper around `mkdir -p', which is not
portable. Now we use prefer to use `install-sh -d' when configure
finds that `mkdir -p' does not work, this makes one less script to
distribute.
For backward compatibility `mkinstalldirs' is still used and
distributed when `automake' finds it in a package. But it is no
longer installed automatically, and it should be safe to remove it.
unfortunately (or should i say "of course"?), it seems that nobody has
warned the gettext developers of this change, so the Makefile.in.in file
provided by gettextize is ***still based on mkinstalldirs***.
i wonder if those crazy autotools guys at the FSF do *really* talk each
other...
