That's depending on glibc I think, I've heard about SuSE-Linux (since today
also known as Novell-Linux....) requires that switch.

On RHL systems, IPv6-enabled clients always use IPv6 first.
And for resolving, if an IPv6 address is given in /etc/resolv.conf, glibc
tries this.
