Hello,
Running 2.6.11 on a PowerPc platforms with no routers and no routers
advertising.
At boot time, eth0 has its Link-Local address (fe80::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx/64)
on all units.
The output from an "ip -6 route show" on all units is:
fe80::/64 dev eth0 metric 256 mtu 1500 advmss 1440 metric 10 64
ff00::/8 dev eth0 metric 256 mtu 1500 advmss 1440 metric 10 1
unreachable default dev lo proto none metric -1 error -101 metric 10 255
I can not ping back and forth with these units.
I now turn on radvd on a Linux server, which is now advertising a
3ffe:303:11:2::/64 prefix.
At this point the output of the "ip -6 route show" is:
3ffe:303:11:2::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 mtu 1500 advmss 1440
metric 10 64
fe80::/64 dev eth0 metric 256 mtu 1500 advmss 1440 metric 10 64
ff00::/8 dev eth0 metric 256 mtu 1500 advmss 1440 metric 10 1
default via fe80::220:edff:febe:3caf dev eth0 proto kernel metric 1024
expires 26sec mtu 1500 advmss 1440 metric 10 64
unreachable default dev lo proto none metric -1 error -101 metric 10 255
I can now ping back and forth with the Link-Local addresses as well as the
Link-Global addresses.
So my question is:
How can I achieve IPv6 communication using the Link-Local addresses without
a router in place or a router advertising?
Thanks,
Phil Bellino
